Wind Chime Series

Wind Chime Series is an installation that explores the delicate yet persistent presence of the outsider, those who dwell in silence, suspended at the edge of belonging.

Inspired by the Korean 'poong-gyeong (wind chime)', often found hanging from the eaves of traditional rooftops, the project reimagines this object through the visual language of aluminum unwritten sticky notes. Like wind chimes that sway vulnerably yet resonate in response to wind, these aluminum plates also hang in precarious balance—gently brushing against their surroundings to create subtle, fricative sounds.

As an international artist living in the U.S., I often feel like a poong-gyeong—swaying at the margins of society, deeply impacted by each shift in political and cultural winds. But like the wind chime, I do not remain silent. I resonate. I leave traces in space and make sound through friction. This is not passivity—it is a quiet declaration: “I am here. I, too, dwell beneath this roofline. I will not fall.”

The aluminum plates, shaped like unwritten sticky notes and reflective of their environment, form a field of silent chimes—fluttering with tension, speaking without words, and embodying the visibility of those who are often unseen.
